The Palmdale Water Reclamation Plant (WRP) currently provides primary, secondary, and tertiary treatment for a design capacity of 12 million gallons of wastewater per day (MGD) and serves a population of approximately 150,000 people.

The Palmdale WRP processes all wastewater solids generated within its service area. The wastewater solids are anaerobically digested, stored, and then dewatered using centrifuges. The dewatered cake, or biosolids, is hauled away for agricultural land application.

Water Reuse

History

The Palmdale WRP currently occupies 286 acres east of the Antelope Valley (CA SR-14) Freeway. It was placed in operation in September 1953 and had a capacity of 0.75 MGD. It then expanded in to 2.5 MGD in 1958, to 3.1 MGD in 1972, to 6.5 MGD in 1989, to 8 MGD in 1993, and finally in 1996 to 15 MGD. The plant completed tertiary treatment in December 2011, resulting in a maximum capacity of 12 MGD through the filters.
