The Santa Clarita Valley Sanitation District held a public hearing on May 26, 2009, to discuss proposed service charge rates in the Santa Clarita Valley. Following the close of the public hearing, the District’s Board of Directors (Board) indicated they would not support the significant rate increases, which were related primarily to the Regional Water Quality Control Board (RWQCB) chloride limit. On June 9, Board Chair Frank Ferry and the Chief Engineer and General Manager for the County Sanitation Districts of Los Angeles County, Stephen Maguin, met with RWQCB Chair Mary Ann Lutz and Executive Director Tracy Egoscue. After hearing Chair Ferry’s presentation of the issues, the RWQCB representatives offered to meet with District's staff to consider more reasonable chloride regulation with drought consideration. Therefore, decision regarding chloride compliance facilities, and the rates proposed for the May 26th meeting, need not be considered further at this time. Instead, a much smaller rate increase for a single year (fiscal year 2009-10) that would provide for the continued proper operation of existing District's facilities and coverage of existing debt service, but not fund any chloride compliance facilities is being recommended. The new proposed service charge rate is $16.59 per month ($199 per year), an increase of $1.67 per month. The meeting to consider the revised recommendation is scheduled for: Wednesday, June 24, 2009 4:00 p.m Santa Clarita City Council Chambers 23920 W. Valencia Boulevard Santa Clarita 91355-2175 The full agenda for this Special Meeting can be found by clicking here. |
