Puente Hills Gas-To-Energy Facility Christmas Tree Recycle Program

The largest gas-to-energy facility of the three constructed by the Districts, this facility is located at the Puente Hills Landfill. It has been in full commercial operation since January 1987 and has remained on-line 95 percent of the time. The facility produces close to 50 megawatts of power, equivalent to the energy requirements of approximately 70,000 homes, of which 46 are sold to Southern California Edison. A portion of the landfill gas conveyed at the Puente Hills facility is converted to compressed natural gas that is utilized as vehicle fuel. The vehicle fueling facility has been operating at the Puente Hills Landfill since October 1993. This facility produces fuel for numerous District vehicles, including employee rideshare vans, water trucks, and heavy-duty trucks used to transfer solid waste and treated waste-to-energy ash. Landfill gas is also conveyed from Puente Hills to Districts' Joint Administrative Office for use in heating and cooling and is sold to Rio Hondo College for heating school facilities. Rio Hondo College also has a vehicle that utilizes the Districts' compressed natural gas facility. |
